Summary

A World War Two type 22 pillbox is visible on aerial photographs on the Lower Esplanade at Gorleston-on-Sea. This pillbox, along with NHER 42330 to the immediate north, would have acted as a beach defence battery and provided defensive fire along the seafront and beach and would have been part of the wider invasion defences along the Gorleston cliffs, see NHER 42350 for details.

A World War Two type 22 pillbox is visible on aerial photographs on the Lower Esplanade at Gorleston-on-Sea (S1)-(S2). This pillbox, along with NHER 42330 to the immediate north, would have acted as a beach defence battery and provided defensive fire along the seafront and beach and would have been part of the wider invasion defences along the Gorleston cliffs, see NHER 42350 for details. The structure is centred on TG 5297 0339 and is 4.5m across and hexagonal. This pillbox has been removed by 1952 (S3).
