Full Description
January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two type 22 pillbox is visible on aerial photographs on Gorleston beach (S1)-(S2). This pillbox, along with the gun emplacements and defences on the cliff top (NHER 42357 and 42359) would have protected the beach and coastal approach to Gorleston-on-Sea. The cliff tops and seafront were also protected by barbed wire and scaffolding obstacles, see NHER 42359. The structure is centred on TG 5304 0253 and is 4m across and hexagonal. The structure appears to have been constructed by August 1940 (S1). This pillbox has been removed by 1952 (S3).
S. Massey (NMP), 30 January 2006.
