Full Description
January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two pillbox is visible on aerial photographs on Gorleston-on-Sea beach (S1)-(S2). This pillbox, along with the gun emplacements and defences on the cliff top (NHER 42357 and 42359) and the Gorleston Links Coastal Battery to the immediate south (NHER 42473), would have protected the beach and coastal approach to Gorleston-on-Sea. The structure is centred on TG 5307 0225 and is visible as a half hexagon, 4.5m across. This is likely to be a type 22 or 24 pillbox, with its rear end camouflaged. This pillbox has been removed by 1945 (S3).
S. Massey (NMP), 30 January 2006.
