Summary

In 1956 a small assemblage of worked flints was recovered at this site. These included a number of potentially Mesolithic pieces, and several later implement, including a tanged arrowhead and a barbed and tanged arrowhead. A single sherd of Beaker pottery was also recovered at this site in the same year.

1956. Stray Find.
Various worked flints found by J. Wortley on west side of Methwold Hythe, including a number of potentially Mesolithic pieces that were subsequently given to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1956.118). Information from (S1). Discoveries first reported in (S2). The NCM finds are listed in (S3) as comprising:
1 bipolar blade core.
3 flakes.
4 blades.
1 end scraper made on blade.
1 scraper fragments.
It is noted that this material was mainly white-corticated, with one blade orange in fracture.

Wortley retained a number of later prehistoric flints from this site, these listed by (S1) as comprising:
1 barbed and tanged arrowhead.
1 tanged arrowhead.
5 scrapers.

Found by O. Wortley in orchard at Methwold Hythe 610m (2000 feet) west of site of St Helen's Church:
1 fragment of 'A' Beaker.
Information from (S4), which also has a small sketch of this sherd.
