Map

April 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a post medieval bank formerly enclosing Heacham common are visible on aerial photographs (S1). Faden’s map of 1797 (S2) indicates that this bank once joined with 26617 to the west to enclose the area of common to the northwest of the common. This map was surveyed between 1790 to 1794, indicating that these are at least this date, although are probably considerably earlier, possibly late 17th century. These banks appear to be amongst the earliest built in the Heacham area.
The stretch of bank showing as cropmark runs from TF 6705 3652 to TF 6663 3616. This is between 5 to 8m wide and marks the boundary of the Heacham common.
