Full Description
February 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A pair of World War Two air raid shelters is visible on aerial photographs within back gardens on Warren Road and Kennel Loke, Hopton-on-Sea (S1). These shelters are visible as earthen covered mounds, probably Anderson shelters, and these would have been for the use of the families living in the properties. The site is centred on TG 5269 0161, although this point does not correspond to an archaeological feature on the ground.
Both shelters are approximately 4m by 3m and are located within the gardens of numbers 26 Warren Road and 14 Kennel Loke, which leads off Warren Road. Additional surface air raid shelters may be visible in gardens further south along Kennel Loke and on Warren Road, although it was not completely clear whether these were air raid shelters or domestic structures and therefore these were not mapped. These were flat and pitched roof and all approximately 6m by 3m.
