Map

No mapped location recorded.

Pre May 1881. Stray Find.
Found at Methwold:
1 "chipped axe". No within the Norwich Castle Museum's Fitch Collection (NWHCM : 1894.76.808).
Information from (S1).
According to (S1) this was the object exhibited by Fitch at a meeting of the Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society on 5 May 1881. It is reported in (S2) that "…Rev. J. W. Millard exhibited a very fine celt found at Burston lately; and Mr Fitch exhibited another from Methwold". As noted on (S3) this wording appears to have been the reason that W. G. Clarke listed Methwold in (S4) as a location that had produced Palaeolithic implements prior to 1907. This implement is however recorded as Neolithic on both (S1) and in the museum's records.
