Summary

This is the site of a brickworks marked on an Ordnance Survey map of 1883. A blacksmith's is also marked on the map as well as other buildings.

Map

Old Brick Yard marked on (S1), now under housing. To west, former brick pit contained two ponds at that date; now dry and public open space. Smithy marked at TG38662180. Only surviving building is at TG38652184, now called Stone Cottage; basically flint, with small brick first floor window to south but otherwise all a 20th century rebuild, now derelict; original date probably around 1820.

(S2) states that the former pit here was called Sandholes, and that as a child he used to play football there each evening.
