Summary

A World War Two type 24 pillbox is visible on aerial photographs on South Denes, Great Yarmouth. The Denes was heavily defended with a variety of pillboxes, gun positions, trenches and barbed wire (see NHER 43323 for overview of area).

A World War Two type 24 pillbox is visible on aerial photographs on South Denes, Great Yarmouth (S1)-(S2). The Denes was heavily defended with a variety of pillboxes, gun positions, trenches and barbed wire see NHER 43323 for overview of area. The pillbox is centred on TG 5312 0458. It appears to facing inland, protecting the Denes area and the oil storage depot, rather than the coastal strip itself. The top of the pillbox looks it has been camouflaged to merge into the background vegetation colour.
