Full Description
March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Lengths of linear ditch are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), between TG 4963 1811 and TG 5005 1808. From the western end of the site, two fragmentary alignments may define a former curvilinear trackway, or perhaps a double ditched boundary which at least partially follows the parish boundary. To the east, an alignment of two ditch segments in the adjacent field may continue the line of the southern side of the trackway. These may also correspond with a field boundary depicted on Hemsby Enclosure Map (S3), suggesting that the site is perhaps of medieval to post medieval date. Additional linear cropmarks visible 160m to the northeast (NHER 43401) and 210m to the southwest (NHER 43403), which share a similar orientation to the postulated trackway, may be contemporary features.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 20 March 2006.
