Map

March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Four fragmentary linear and slightly curvilinear ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 4976 1705. Their date and function is not known: they do not appear to relate to any of the field boundaries and trackways mapped in the vicinity, such as NHER 43445 immediately to the east. Some could be associated with the field boundaries depicted in this area on Hemsby Enclosure Map (S3) but the exact location of each boundary on the map is not entirely clear. It is notable that the ditches are aligned more-or-less parallel to the modern limits of the field, and it is possible that they in fact reflect recent agricultural activity rather than the presence of archaeological features. They are partially overlapped by a World War Two military site (NHER 43446).
S. Tremlett (NMP), 27 March 2006.
