Summary

A probable World War Two air raid shelter is visible as a structure on 1940s aerial photographs. Its small size and its location within an enclosed garden suggest that it was probably a private shelter, intended for the use of a single family or household. It may have been an Anderson shelter, or a similar proprietary design. Recent aerial photographs indicate that the structure has now been demolished or removed.

Map

April 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A probable air raid shelter dating to World War Two is visible as a structure on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 5264 0948. It lay in the back garden of 36 Perebrown Avenue. This, together with its small size, suggests that it was a private shelter intended for the use of this particular household. It was a small surface structure, which is differentiated from a normal outbuilding by its curved profile. It may have been a surface Anderson shelter without its usual covering of earth, or a similar proprietary design. Recent aerial photographs of the site, e.g. (S3), demonstrate that the structure has now been demolished or removed.
