Full Description
April 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A probable air raid shelter dating to World War Two is visible as a structure on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5251 0912. It lay in the back garden of 35 Harley Road. This, together with its small size, suggests that it was a private shelter intended for the use of this particular household. It was a small structure, which can be distinguished from a normal outbuilding by its curved profile. It may have been an Anderson shelter without its usual covering of earth, or a similar proprietary design. Judging partly by the shadow cast by the structure, the façade (at the west end) appears to have been wider and taller than the main body of the shelter, a feature that is typical of Anderson shelters. Recent aerial photographs of the area, e.g. (S2), demonstrate that the shelter has almost certainly now been demolished or otherwise removed.
