Civil Parish NORTH ELMHAM, BRECKLAND, NORFOLK

Map

House aligned north to south along road. North gable wall with flint base, brick gable and brick returns with diagonal skintlings. South gable wall concealed by pentise, but also has returns of brick. Both have internal stacks. Off-centre stack towards north. One storey and attic. Façade has three different builds of brick and two doors. During restoration around 1986, timber frame glimpsed, appeared to be of late date.
Apparently therefore a timber framed house probably early 18th century with contemporary fire gables; façade replaced in brick at various dates.
Non-listed building in conservation area.
N.B. despite local legend this is not the cottage shown in a well-known 19th century photograph of Elmham Pump (copy in parish file).
