Summary

An apparent ruined building exists in the grounds of the school here, and the school itself stands on the site of Heigham House. The north wall is gabled with various stone fragments and niches above a cusped arch and the inner jambs of the arch have Baroque colonettes. All the materials appear to be 19th century and it appears this was a garden folly purposely built for Heigham House.

Map

Apparent ruined building in grounds of school, which stands on the site of Heigham House.
Aligned north-south, north wall is gabled with various stone fragments and niches above a cusped arch. The inner jambs of the arch have Baroque colonettes. East and west walls drop in height to south and contain arched recesses. All the materials – flint, stone and brick – appear to be 19th century. No trace of a south wall. Nearby stands an octagonal pier of stone. See photographs (S1) in file.
(S2) has a dot at this point and layout of garden paths of Heigham House is as existing. This would appear to have no connection with St Philip’s Church to north (NHER 39337) but to be a folly purposely built for Heigham House.
