Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Group of linear ditches and a trackway visible on Ordnance Survey aerial photographs from 1994 (S1). Two parallel ditches 5m apart, run from TG 0940 4310 to TG 0933 4310, measuring 75m long. Both the ditches are approximately 1.5m wide. This feature is likely to be a trackway. Several linear features are visible, the clearest being from TG 0943 4324 to TG 0936 4323. This is 71m long and 1.5m wide. To the immediate west of this linear a narrower ditch can be seen to continue to the south from TG 0936 4323 to TG 0934 4318. Another major linear feature runs from TG 0941 4314 to TG 0935 4317, measuring 65m long and again up to 1.5m wide. Another possible ditch is visible in two sections, running from TG 0923 4320 to TG 0935 4321. The gap between these two linears, appears to be caused by geological masking, together they cover a distance of 115m. Several other linear and curvilinear elements are visible, however, the area is also subject to much geological cropmarking and therefore it was not clear which were definitely of archaeological origin. The dates of these features are uncertain. Finds in the area range from Neolithic (NHER 24508) to Roman (NHER 29805) and Saxon (NHER 33272). However the more regular of these linears may represent medieval to post medieval field boundaries and tracks.
S. Massey (NMP), 22 January 2003.
