Summary

A probable World War Two air raid shelter is visible as an earthwork, presumably covering a structure, on 1940s aerial photographs. Its small size and its location within an enclosed garden suggest that it was probably a private shelter, intended for the use of a single family or household. It may have been an Anderson shelter, or a similar proprietary design. It is not visible on recent aerial photographs of the site and has presumably been levelled.

Map

April 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A probable air raid shelter dating to World War Two is visible as an earthwork, which presumably covered a structure, on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5263 0883. It lay in the front garden of 13 Beaconsfield Road. This location, together with its small size, suggests that it was a private shelter intended for the use of this particular household. The earthwork is not particularly clear on the consulted aerial photographs, and consequently its identification as an air raid shelter is not certain. It may have been an Anderson shelter or a similar proprietary design. Recent aerial photographs of the area, for example (S2), demonstrate that the shelter has now been levelled.
