Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Linear cropmarks of unknown date are visible on BKS aerial photographs from 1988 (S1). Two linear features appear to cross one another. The longest is 50m in length and runs from TG 0954 4291 to TG 0954 4290 and then it turns to the south and continues to TG 0954 4286. The ditch is approximately 1m wide. The second linear ditch is straight and runs from TG 0955 4291 to TG 0952 4288. It is 40m long and varies in width from 1-1.5m. To the immediate east of these ditches is a possible pit, centred on TG 0954 4289 and measuring 3.5m by 1m. The geology in this area produces quite a few linear features and pit-like features, however these cropmarks seem fairly regular and convincing as archaeological features, but of unknown date. There are some further cropmarks to the south, centred on TG 0951 4273, however these appear to be more geological in origin.
S. Massey (NMP), 29 April 2003.

November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable.
This survey identified several discrete anomalies at the northern end of the field, one of which potentially corresponds with the pit-like cropmark mapped at TG 0954 4289. There was however no evidence for surviving subsurface remains associated with the linear cropmarks.
See NHER 66131 for further details.
See NHER P. Watkins (HES), 19 October 2022.

February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable.
One of the trenches excavated coincided with all three cropmarks in this group. This revealed a single undated pit but there was again no evidence for sub-surface remains associated with the linear cropmarks.
See NHER 66131 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 19 October 2022.
