Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Area of World War Two barbed wire defences and a spigot mortar emplacement visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1-2). The possible spigot mortar emplacement is located at TG 0668 4193. The structure appears to consist of a circular concrete area or base, 7m in diameter, with a 1.5m diameter circular structure in the centre. This located to the east and front of Swan Lodge. To the east of this two sections of barbed wire defences, running from TG 0666 4206 to TG 0671 4204 and from TG 0675 4198 to TG 0684 4180. It is possible that troops were housed within Swan Lodge or it had been taken over for operational purposes. The heath to the immediate east and north appears to have been used extensively during and after the war for training purposes, so it is possible that these defences were constructed as part of training.
S. Massey (NMP), March 2003.
