Map

1910-11. Stray Finds.
Found by F. N. Haward, south-east of church (?by Mundford Strip):
4 Palaeolithic "palaeos" (Nos 234, 277, 280, 382). Later donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1947.33.9). Information from (S1).

These finds are listed in (S2) as 4 handaxes. Short descriptions of these implements are recorded on (S3) and they are amongst the 8 Cranwich handaxes in the NCM described by Wymer in (S4). These handaxes are also noted in (S5) and (S6), although no additional information is given. It is possible that one or more of the handaxes from this site were amongst the Palaeolithic material that Haward exhibited at a meeting of the Prehistoric Society of East Anglian in 1920 (S7) - see NHER 4951 for further details.

It appears that this record has been mapped on the basis of the information recorded by (S1), although it should be noted that there were a number of gravel pits near this site and one of these is perhaps a more likely source of these finds.
The area was visited by Wymer in 1995, but the only locational information recorded on (S3) is a note stating that the site lay between the church and the A134. The grid reference listed is that from (S2), which must be presumed to be fairly approximate.
