Full Description
April 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A probable air raid shelter dating to World War Two is visible as a structure on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5229 0521. It lay in the back garden of 6 Burgh Road, Gorleston-on-Sea. This location, together with its small size, suggests that it was a private shelter, intended for the use of this particular household. It is visible as a small rectangular structure, which can be distinguished from a normal outbuilding by its apparently curved shape in profile. It may have been an Anderson shelter without its usual covering of earth, or a similar proprietary design. Recent aerial photographs of the area, e.g. (S2), demonstrate that the shelter has now been levelled.
