Full Description
May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of two ring ditches, of possible Bronze Age date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4). These cropmarks are centred on TM 3083 8796. The largest of the two ring ditches is located at TM 3086 8799. It has a sub-circular plan with a 2m wide ditch and an external diameter of 14m. It is likely that this ring ditch is of Bronze Age date and that it relates to a round barrow. The second ring ditch cropmark is located 80m to the southwest at TM 3081 8794. It has a sub-circular plan with a narrow ditch and an external diameter of 8m. Although it is possible that this ring ditch is of Bronze Age date, small ring ditches are sometimes associated with Early Anglo-Saxon graves and it could be of that date. Other ring ditch cropmarks are present to the northeast and southwest forming a dispersed barrow cemetery (NHER 43538-40, 43611-2). These include two other small ring ditches with diameters of 6m and 10m. These ring ditches are located on the terrace of the River Waveney at approximately 16m OD.
