Full Description
May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of undated linear ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These cropmarks are centred on TM 3051 8816. Two roughly parallel curving ditches are present in the western part of this group of cropmarks. The alignment of these ditches does not match that of the post medieval field pattern. The ditches curve southwards towards The Lay, a former medieval fishpond, which is possibly of natural origin. Their curving approach to this feature is similar to that of a triple linear ditch cropmark to the southeast (NHER 11676). It is possible that that these cropmarks represent a continuation of the same late prehistoric boundary feature. In the east of the group are a further two ditches. The broader curving ditch could possibly also be of late prehistoric date and may be related to the triple ditch boundary. The narrow linear ditch on a southwest to northeast alignment is of unknown date.
