Full Description
May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Two World War Two bomb craters are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 5214 0617. The craters do not appear to have been particularly fresh earthworks on the earliest consulted photographs of the site (S1) and they may have been created several months, or even years, earlier. The intended target for the bombs may have been part of Great Yarmouth’s transport network, or one of the many military and industrial sites in the vicinity. Aerial photographs taken more recently (S3) and modern Ordnance Survey maps demonstrate that the site now lies within Yarmouth Business Park. The craters appear to have been levelled and the area resurfaced for use as a car park.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 5 May 2006.
