Full Description
May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A probable air raid shelter dating to World War Two is visible as an extant building or structure on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 5178 0753. Its size and location (on open ground largely surrounded by terrace houses) suggest that it was probably a communal shelter used by local residents. It appears to have been a surface-level structure. Nearby mounds of earth (not mapped by the NMP) may have derived from the excavation of its foundations and floor-level, or may indicate that it was in fact semi-sunken. Alternatively, they might represent small, earth-covered air raid shelters, of the type typically found in private gardens (compare NHER 43656 45m to the southeast). Later aerial photographs (S3) indicate that the shelter had been demolished or otherwise removed by early April 1947.
