Summary

A hut or temporary building, probably related to civil defence and/or shelter during World War Two, is visible as an extant structure on 1940s aerial photographs. It is one of several huts of this type to have been identified at Great Yarmouth, most, like this one, located within or close to the town centre. The structure was removed after the end of the war.

Full Description

May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A hut or temporary building dating to World War Two is visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 5258 0780. The single-storey rectangular structure was probably associated with the civil defence of Great Yarmouth, and may have acted as an air raid shelter, temporary accommodation, or food station, for example. It was removed after the end of the war and no trace of it is visible on recent aerial photographs of the area, e.g. (S4).
