Summary

A group of probable air raid shelters dating to World War Two is visible as earthworks, probably covering structures, on 1940s aerial photographs. They are visible as elongated banks, almost certainly made up of several shelters erected side by side. Their apparently small size and location within a yard surrounded by terrace houses suggests that they were private or civic shelters, intended for the use of local residents. They may have been Anderson shelters, or similar proprietary designs. The shelters were presumably levelled in the post-war period, and no trace of them is visible on more recent aerial photographs of the site.

A group of probable air raid shelters dating to World War Two is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5204 0843. They lay within a yard surrounded by terrace houses and were probably used by local residents. They are visible as three elongated mounds, each of which almost certainly covered several small structures erected side by side. At least some of the latter had a curved shape in profile and some or all of them may have been Anderson shelters or similar proprietary designs. The site has since been partially built over and no trace of the shelters is visible on recent aerial photographs of the area, see (S2).
