Full Description
Early 20th century. Stray Finds.
Prehistoric worked flints found at 'Mount Ephrain' by J. S. Warburton in the early 20th century. These finds included a barbed and tanged arrowhead which is now held by the NCM according to (S1). Warburton's other finds from this site included nine 'harpoon barbs' and three triangular knives (S2). The latter are probably Neolithic. Information from (S3) and (S4).
E. Rose (NAU). Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 17 May 2013.
It is suggested on (S4) that some of this assemblage may be Mesolithic, presumably due to the presence of 'harpoon barbs', which could be microliths. It should however be noted that these objects may well be Neolithic petit tranchet derivative transverse arrowheads.
P. Watkins (HES), 17 May 2013.
The mapped extent of this record represents the approximate position of this site, which presumably lay somewhere in or near the the slight rise that continues to be known as Mount Ephrain. T
P. Watkins (HES), 17 May 2013.
