Full Description
June 2006. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of curvilinear and linear ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These cropmarks are centred on TM 3078 9309 and were previously partly recorded within NHER 21755. Seven sections of ditch cropmark are present. These have a range of different alignments and appear to represent several phases or periods of activity. The main curvilinear ditch, which extends for 164m from TM 3070 9308 to TM 3080 9322, lies parallel to a modern field boundary and is partly shown on the 1839 Hedenham tithe map (S3). This ditch and the connected ditches to its north are likely to be field boundaries of medieval to post medieval date. Other linear ditch cropmarks of unknown date are present in the south and east of this group. One of these is crossed by the post medieval field boundary and another by a cropmark of a Bronze Age ring ditch (NHER 31514).
