Map

June 2006. Norfolk NMP
An earthwork of a rectangular enclosure of probable medieval to post medieval date is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4). This earthwork is located at TM 3473 9090. The enclosure is sub-rectangular in plan with external dimensions of 36m by 26m. It is defined by a narrow outer ditch on its west, north and east sides and a discontinuous broad ditch to the south. Inside of this ditch is a broad bank earthwork. Although the enclosure itself is not marked on the first edition Ordnance Survey 6 inch to the mile map of the 1880s (S5) a rectangular group of trees is shown at this location suggesting that it was present at that date. It lies parallel to the surrounding field boundaries and the railway to the northwest. The date and function of this enclosure is unknown, but it is most likely of post medieval or medieval origin. It is possible that it is related to the construction of the adjacent railway line in the 1860s.
