Map

March 2005. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a possible enclosure and associated boundaries of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Hickling Hall Farm, Hickling (S1). The site is centred on TG 4126 2417. This possible enclosure is located within an area of undated and medieval to post medieval cropmarks (NHER 28818 and 44808). Many of these cropmarks are visible on oblique aerial photographs of the area, however the possible cropmarks recorded under this number was only identified on one set of vertical aerial photographs (S1) and the features were not visible on oblique aerial photographs of the same area. This could suggest that the archaeological origin of the cropmarks is not certain and it is possible that they have been caused by some more recent agricultural activity.

The site consists of a curvilinear enclosure measuring 35m by 20m, with a possible rectilinear enclosed area to the immediate south suggested by an L-shaped arrangement of ditches forming a corner. An additional ditch runs parallel to the western side of this possible enclosure.
S. Massey (NMP), 29 March 2005.
