Full Description
June 2006. Norfolk NMP
Earthworks of banks and ditches, of probable medieval to post medieval date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). These earthworks are located at TM 3106 9108. They lie within, and were previously recorded as part of, Earsham Park (NHER 30500). These linear and curvilinear ditch and bank earthworks probably relate to medieval to early post medieval field boundaries that predate the establishment of the park in the early 18th century. It is possible that one section of bank, between TM 3107 9006 and TM 3122 9000, represents the line of a medieval to post medieval road. A road on this alignment is shown as having been ‘stopped up’ on the 1812 Earsham enclosure map (S4). See also notes in secondary file for NHER 30500.
