Map

House, now off Kirby Street, formerly in Broadway’s Yard. Aligned north-south, two storeys. West front all rendered; three bays of horned sashes at first floor; ground floor with two doors with later porches. Tall rendered central stack, internal north gable stack. South gable wall with two storey canted bay window, with gable brought forward above it. East wall of flettons south of the central stack, rendered to north; clear change of pantiles at the stack. Garden walls of Fern Cottages to east incorporated into southern section. Small anvil lies in garden.
(S1) indicates that the section north of the central stack predates 1880. It formerly adjoined the Phoenix Iron Works, which was replaced by Phoenix House in the 1890s.
The south end, behind Fern Cottages, postdates 1880; replacing a small extension of unusual plan.
E. Rose (NLA), 5 June 2006.
