Map

July 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks and earthworks of medieval to post medieval field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S6). These cropmarks and earthworks are centred on TM 3444 9360 to the north of the site of Broome Hall (NHER 10639). A group of polygonal fields are present defined by field boundary ditches. A roughly trapezoidal field, measuring 270m by 185m in size, is present in the northeast part of the group. It is possibly defined on its east side by a double ditched boundary or trackway that is visible as an earthwork in 1945 (S3). Faint linear cropmarks are visible within this field. Although these could relate to ridge and furrow, it is more likely that they are a result of modern agricultural activity and they were not mapped. The remaining fields in the group are not complete. They have polygonal plans that range in size from 67m by 55m to 170m by 136m. It is likely that these are medieval to early post medieval fields that are associated with Broome Hall (NHER 10639) to their south. A curving field boundary that extends from TM 3426 9376 to TM 3460 9349 is visible as a cropmark on some aerial photographs (S1-S2). This was still an extant field boundary in 1945 (S3) and was not mapped. With the exception of this field boundary, none of the cropmark boundaries are present on the 1840 Broome tithe map (S7).
