Map

1938 to 1939.
Part excavtion of hearth with Iron Age, Roman or Early Saxon sherds.
Information from (S1).

1939. Stray Find.
Neolithic and Bronze Age sherds.
Information from (S2) and (S3).

The Neolithic sherds are held by the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1939.51; ex George Collection). It should be noted that the collection of objects with this accession number also includes the skull from a crouched inhumation that was dug up at the same time, approximately 150m to the south-east. It appears these sherds date to the Middle Neolithic, both being identified as Peterborough Ware on (S3) and one as Mortlake Ware in (S4).

It is noted by (S3) that the Norwich Castle Museum also has a small collection of Neolithic worked flints that are probably from this site (NWHCM : 1963.120.47). According to (S4) these include long-pointed piercers and a flaked discoidal knife.

The Bronze Age sherds found in 1939 were also later donated to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1961.30). There are listed in (S5) as undiagnostic body sherds of later Bronze Age date.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 15 July 2018.
