Summary

A large early 19th century watermill and miller's house. The original mill machinery has survived intact, including a cast iron waterwheel. The mill has recently been restored.

Watermill.
Very large building, 11 bays on southwest front though some blocked. This facade is fairly good order but rest ruinous. Yellow brick, with pilasters: slate roof, with dormers. 2 weatherboarded sack hoists. Many S clamps. Late 18th/early 19th century.
At rear (northeast) some farm buildings have been added in late 19th century, but these also derelict. Millstones are in one. Miller's house at northwest end of mill, projecting to northeast. Hydraulic ram in more recent shed to souhteast (to judge by noise). River still flows through mill.

(S2) 1985 notes plaque 1819 with RC for Ralph Caldwell. Grade II* because of complete machinery, cast iron waterwheel, pit wheel, wallower, stone nuts, tentering gear, governers (ground floor); 3 sets of stones in place on first floor, casings and hoppers intact. Roof with bins, chutes and screening machines.
