Summary

A group of linear ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The features are undated, but their orientation is broadly similar to that of a possibly later prehistoric trackway and field system (NHER 44898 and 44902 respectively) visible to the southeast and they may be contemporary features. At the same time, they are not entirely convincing as archaeological features, and in the absence of any other evidence the nature of the site must be regarded as ambiguous.

Map

August 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Linear and rectilinear ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 4276 1556. Their archaeological origin is uncertain; they could instead be the product of recent agricultural activity, for example. If they are archaeological in nature, their orientation suggests that they could be contemporary with a later prehistoric (perhaps Iron Age) trackway and field system identified approximately 280m to the southeast (NHER 44898 and 44902 respectively). There is no evidence that the cropmarks are related to the flint foundations previously recorded in this area (NHER 8535).
