Full Description
November 2002 - January 2003. Fieldwalking, metal detecting and geophysical survey. Bacton to King's Lynn Transco pipeline. Construction section 1, plot number 251.
Although this plot had tentatively been identified as the site of a Saxon cemetery (S1), this was not corroborated by the field survey.
See (S2).
J. Allen (NLA), 25 August 2006.
March - August 2003. Excavation. Bacton to King's Lynn pipeline.
Excavation revealed features including an undated rectangular pit or post hole, clusters of stake holes, an ?Early Bronze Age possible circular enclosure and an ?Early Bronze Age ditch which appeared to have been replaced by a wider ?Late Bronze Age or Iron Age ditch on the same alignment.
Finds include earlier Neolithic to Iron Age pottery and prehistoric worked flints.
See (S3). The results of this work are also summarised in (S4).
J. Allen (NLA), 25 August 2006.
