Full Description
May 1984. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
"Former stables and hayloft. 18th century and later. Knapped flint with brick dressings and red brick with pantiled roof. 1½ storeys, with single storey lean-to, to west, and courtyard walls extending from the north west and south east corners. Earliest section to west, of flint, nearly 18th century, with central stable door, first floor hayloft door and external access stair. Flanking windows have segmental brick arches. Eastern section of brick has central door with fanlight and flanking windows with wrought iron casements and segmental brick arches. Attached 18th-century flint and brick wall to west. 18th-century brick wall to east, extending across rear garden of the Old House has four 'bee boles' one of which is now blocked. Included for group value."

The bee boles noted above would have housed straw hives known as skeps. They are amongst the small number of surviving Norfolk examples recorded in the 'Bee Boles Register (S2), which includes a photograph of one of these brick alcoves that had been supplied in 2012. It is recorded that the wall "…was once part of [the] brewery building which backed onto [the] garden to [the] east of the house.
