Summary

Crescent House dates to around 1620 to 1640, with an early 18th century red brick and paler brick façade. The building has a parapetted roof of slate with a moulded modillion cornice and two ridge chimneystacks, one with two and the other with four shafts set diagonally. The original plan of the building had two parallel linked ranges with gable ends to road. The current building has three storeys and stone window sills with gauged brick arches. There is a central doorway with a doorcase of engaged Ionic columns with pulvinated frieze carved with Greek garland motif. Inside there is a fine 1640 closed-string staircase of five flights, with turned balusters a and moulded rail with square newel posts.
