Full Description
Terrace of 11 houses, Nos 7 & 8 since late 19th century with shopfront extension, Nos 10 & 11 now a hotel. 1825. Brown brick facades, red brick returns and rear. Slate roof to front, mostly pantiles to rear. 3 storeys, each house in 2 bays, the door to the left. Blind window bays over the doors, except 4 which has 2 sashes to each floor. Original doors: panelled with 4-vaned fanlights set within a doorcase consisting of engaged columns with fluting above a plain base. Windows are sashes with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. A platband at first floor has stucco decoration in form of palmette and tulip motifs over a running scroll, some portions of which have been filled-in. Nos 7 and 8 have been amalgamated and a late 20th century shopfront added. Between Nos 8 & 9 is a basket carriage arch leading to Robert Street and under the arch is one original door and fanlight right and left. Nos 10 & 11 are now Guannock Hotel, with a rendered and colourwashed ground floor and rusticated quoins. The platband only has the running scroll motif. Gabled roof with stacks at the division of properties. No.4 has a bay window added to the ground floor. The following houses have altered doors: Nos 1,2,3,7-8,9,10 & 11. The following have altered fenestration: Nos 3, 6. Some have replaced sashes with horns. The following have rebuilt stacks: Nos 1 & 2, 3 & 4, 4 & 5. The rear elevations are mostly altered.
