Full Description
Pre 1974. Stray Find.
A range of finds were recovered by the late Frank Curtis in this field, which he designated F21A (Context 1). The information on these finds was collated by F. Healy (NAU) who examined Curtis' catalogue and part of his collection. It is noted on (S1) that this area was found by Curtis to be "...well scattered with flint scrapers, flakes etc.". The following Curtis finds are listed in (S2):
1 Neolithic leaf-shaped arrowhead
2 Neolithic transverse petit tranchet derivative arrowheads
2 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged arrowheads.
1 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age plano-convex knife.
The summary of Curtis finds from this field given by (S3) also lists:
1 Mesolithic 'microlith'.
1 scraper.
2 borers.
1 'knife scraper'.
1 flake knife.
3 fabricator.

Weathered ploughsoil. Two sites identified:
Site FWL 91 (TL 6936 9278; Context 3).
Concentration of pot boilers moderate and few bits bone. 20m east to west x 12m north to south. .

Site FWL ??? (TL 6936 9269; Context 5).
On flat loam ridge with some marl and peat intermixed. Moderate concentration of flints, very sparse potboilers and sparse bone fragments. May be an extension of adjacent site but there does seem to be a break in the distribution between the two. Only small sample flint collected. Max dimensions 80m east to west x 77m north to south. Previously recorded under NHER 21136.

1989 to 1990. Fenland Evaluation Project Auger Survey.
Auger traverse across site in area of Context 5 and surrounding residual peat. Samples kept for analysis.

Worked flints found at TL 6936 2928 (Context 4):
1 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged arrowhead.
1 scraper.
Found in southern part of field:
1 Neolithic leaf arrowhead. Previously recorded under NHER 32222.
1 Roman pottery sherd (beaded bowl rim). Previously recorded under NHER 32222.
