Summary

At an unknown date an unretouched Palaeolithic flint flake was found somewhere on Feltwell Fen. It is possible that this was actually recovered in quarry pits near Shrub Hill Farm (NHER 5292). These pits lies within the area known as Feltwell Fen and produced many Palaeolithic finds during the 1860s and 1870s.

FINDS IN MUSEUM COLLECTIONS

Roe (S1) lists a single unmodified Palaeolithic flint flake from Feltwell Fen that was in the Salisbury Museum. No information is available regarding the date or circumstances of its discovery.
Information from (S2).
In (S3) and Wymer (S4) notes a flake from Feltwell Fen in the British Museum, which is almost certainly the same object as that listed by Roe - this being noted on one of Wymer's index cards (S3) but not listed elsewhere in (S4).

The British Museum holds a collection of 8 Palaeolithic flints (handaxes and flakes) that were transferred from the Salisbury Museum (1975,0306.75-82) and it is therefore likely that the Feltwell Fen flake is now amongst this collection. The other flints in this collection are known to be from the extremely productive site at Shrub Hill Farm, which lies within the area known as Feltwell Fen.
