English Heritage Listing 1972:
July 1972. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description excerpt:
"Pair of houses. Late 17th century. Brick, No 4 colourwashed. Pantiled roof. One storey and dormer attic. Roughly symmetrical disposition of one 20th century door each side of elevation separated by two 20th century windows, one to each house. All openings under segmental arches."
Information from (S1).
Please consult the National Heritage List for England (S1) for the current listing details.
Amended by J. Cullis (HES), 21 January 2020.
Façade of bricks with horizontal skintlings of an early type suggesting a date around 1770, which was the date the owner in 2000 was given for the house when it was purchased. The whole appearance is so unlike 17th century work that one must query whether there is a misprint in the Listing, and it was intended to read Late 18th century. There is a sillbeam in the rear wall at a higher level than the façade base, but the ceiling beam of the ground floor room, and the joists, are on edge. Fireplace recent. Winding stairs remain in no 6 but not in no 4.
