Full Description
September 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Linear and curvilinear ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S5), centred at TG 4008 1832. Their date is unknown. Some could be part of one or more phases of the field systems, trackways and enclosures visible immediately to the east and northeast (NHER 45072). Others might be associated with the possible Bronze Age round barrow (NHER 45067) they surround. At the same time, however, the archaeological origin of many of the mapped features is somewhat dubious, and it is likely that a proportion of the cropmarks are the product of the underlying geology at the site or of recent agricultural activity. The cropmark of a palaeochannel is also visible; this presumably once fed into Horse Fen to the south; it has not been mapped by the NMP.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 25 September 2006.
