Summary

A single ditch was recorded during monitoring of the installation of a new water main in 2006. Although no dating evidence was recovered for this feature, it appears to coincide with the location of a former field boundary depicted on several 19th century maps.

Map

October 2006. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks for the installation of a new water main. Contexts 1-5.
A single ditch feature was recorded at the northern corner of the field. No finds were recovered from the fill, but it is likely that this represents a former field boundary. Thepresent farmer noted that this field had previously been divided into three separate fields. These divisions are clearly depicted on several 19th century maps ((S1)-(S3)), including one that appears to run from the northern corner of the field.
See report (S4) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S5).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2016.134).
