Map

October 2006. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of a possible moat and associated ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3404 1352. A rectangular enclosure cropmark is visible on a roughly west to east alignment adjacent to Salhouse Road at Panxworth. The enclosure is defined by a ditch that measures between 6m and 12m in width and has external dimensions of 70m by 64m. A 28m long section of the eastern side is not visible as a cropmark and it is not clear if the enclosure ever formed a complete circuit. A curving linear ditch, which is 4m wide, extends for 48m to the west from the northwest corner of the enclosure. A narrow linear ditch cropmark is also present inside the enclosure, running parallel and close to its south side. It is possible that this enclosure is a moat of medieval date, although there is no cartographic evidence for its existence.
