Map

October 2006. Norfolk NMP
Earthworks of early post medieval field boundary ditches and banks are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These earthworks are centred on TM 4147 9173. Linear boundary ditches and banks are present as earthworks in pasture land. The ditches have a rectilinear plan and lie on a similar axis to the modern field pattern. The banks have a slightly different alignment and may relate to an earlier phase of activity. The field boundary ditches are partly shown on the 19th century Gillingham tithe map (S2) and probably relate to early post medieval boundaries and drainage ditches. The date and function of the linear bank earthworks is unknown. These earthworks are now cut but the A146 Gillingham bypass.
