Full Description
October 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A group of fragmentary linear, curvilinear and rectilinear banks and ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 4158 1573. They are spread across a wide area and all are undated. Some may be of non-archaeological origin. There is little to link them in archaeological terms, but they are recorded together here for two reasons: firstly, because their origin and date is unknown, and secondly because they have no clear association with other nearby sites (e.g. NHER 44936 50m to the north or NHER 45060 195m to the southwest), although such relationships are likely to have existed in the past. The cropmarks of boundaries depicted on 19th century maps, such as Ashby with Oby and Thurne Tithe Map (S4), are also visible across this area but they have not been mapped as part of the NMP.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 24 October 2006.
