Full Description
October 2006. Norfolk NMP
A cropmark of a ring ditch, probably relating to a Bronze Age round barrow is visible on aerial photographs (S1). This cropmark is centred on TM 3596 9315. The ring ditch is circular in plan with a narrow ditch and an external diameter of 25m. It is likely that it is of Bronze Age date and it possibly relates to a round barrow. It is situated on a gentle south facing slope at approximately 11m OD. Another ring ditch cropmark is located 455m to the southwest (NHER 11678). The location of this ring ditch corresponds to a former field boundary that is marked by a line of trees on the1840 Ellingham tithe map (S2). It is possible that the barrow was still visible as an earthwork when the field boundary was laid out in the medieval to early post medieval period.
